Math is the language of the universe. So the more equations you know, the more you can converse with the cosmos.
Within the Maths Department at Queensway. We offer a large range of opportunities and resources to allow all students to achieve progress and extend their mathematical skills.
The Department’s aim is to ensure that all students maximise their potential and enjoy learning in mathematics lessons.
Various teaching methods are used including online courses, practical lessons exploring mathematical proofs and games to extend learning, social interaction and real life scenarios.
The skills offered through the curriculum will enable learners:
- to apply their knowledge and understanding to everyday life
- to engage capably and positively with others
- to solve problems in both familiar and unfamiliar situations
- to feel safe, secure and enjoy their learning in Maths
Entry Level Certificate
Where students are unable to follow the National Curriculum they may follow an alternative pathway that will allow them to focus on the core topics by completing the Entry Level Certificate pathway and Pearsons Access to Foundation in Year 10 or 11.
Keystage 3
At KS3, we are utilising the White Rose Maths Scheme of work and adapting this to suit our students using a range of teaching and learning styles, and resources to maximise the potential of our students. This scheme of work is designed to follow on from White Rose Maths Primary and revisits previous topics to assess prior knowledge.

Keystage 4
At KS4, we are following the White Rose Maths Year 10 Scheme of Work and in Year 11 students follow a more bespoke path that is tailored to their individual needs
The aims and objectives are to enable students to:
- develop fluent knowledge, skills and understanding of mathematical methods and concepts
- acquire, select and apply mathematical techniques to solve problems
- reason mathematically, make deductions and inferences, and draw conclusions
- Comprehend, interpret and communicate mathematical information in a variety of forms appropriate to the information and context.
